We continue to work through the Armor of God, and now have 5 of the 6 pieces put together. Our last piece, the Helmet of Salvation, will be done next Sunday! Over the last three weeks, we made a Belt of Truth, a Breastplate of Righteousness, and Shoes of Peace. To quickly recap what we learned:
1. Belt of Truth. We examined a tool belt and all the tools it carried, discussing the specific purpose for each one. Like the tool belt, the Belt of Truth is where we carry all our tools that remind us about God's truth. Some examples of tools in our Belt of Truth are listening to and remembering Bible stories, learning and memorizing Bible verses, worshipping in song and praying. Everything we need to know to fight the lies of the world is in the truth we know about God. People can see Jesus in us through the truths we live by. 2. Breastplate of Righteousness. We talked about what righteousness means, and the kids gave great examples. The Breastplate of Righteousness protects our heart - it keeps good things in and bad things out. Our heart is the most important part of us because that's where Jesus comes to live when we ask Him to be our Savior and friend! When we do what is right out of our love for Jesus, it's like strengthening our Breastplate of Righteousness - protecting our heart and making it harder for the devil to mess with it. 3. Shoes of Peace. We looked at different types of shoes and when they would be worn, then the kids shared what the word "peace" means to them. Good stuff! In the same way we put on snow boots to keep our feet warm in the snow, we choose to walk calmly, lovingly, and kindly when we "put on" the Shoes of Peace. Oftentimes we can tell where someone is going or what they are about to do by the shoes they put on. Same concept; people can tell who we love and what we love by what we say and how we behave. They can tell by the words and behavior we "wear". We share the good news of Jesus by what we say and how we behave. His love for us is news worth sharing!
